Mahasiswa Unpad Temukan Alat Detektor Bakteri E. coli Berbasis Smartphone

Tim riset mahasiswa Fakultas Kedokteran Unpad diundang ke kantor Bappenas RI di Jakarta untuk memaparkan mengenai enemuan mereka terkait alat detektor bakteri Escherichia coli (e.coli) berbasis smartphone, (Foto: Humas Unpad).

ZONALITERASI.ID – Tim mahasiswa Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad) menemukan alat detektor bakteri Escherichia coli (E. coli) berbasis smartphone.

Mahasiswa yang tergabung dalam tim ini yaitu Asep Wirayasa, Nurul Mufliha, Nindya Khairunisa, dan Liana Awalia. Mereka dibimbing oleh mentor Prof. Dr.med. Tri Hanggono Achmad, dr.; Mas Rizky Anggun Adipurna Syamsunarno, dr., M.Kes., Ph.D; Dr.med. Muhammad Hasan Bashari, dr., M.Kes; dan Eko Fuji Ariyanto, dr., M.KM., Ph.D.

Salah satu anggota tim, Asep Wirayasa, mengatakan, alat detektor bakteri E. coli berbasis smartphone hasil penelitian tim FK ini bisa digunakan secara mudah, murah, cepat, dan dapat digunakan berulang kali.

“Jika normalnya untuk mendeteksi E. coli memerlukan waktu 1 sampai 2 hari menggunakan kultur bakteri, atau PCR yang memakan waktu 20 menit tamun hanya bisa digunakan 1 kali. Alat ini bisa digunakan berkali-kali karena berbasis Android dan Infrared, dan memiliki waktu deteksi yang sangat cepat yaitu dibawah 5 detik,” ungkap Asep, saat menghadiri undangan khusus Kementerian Perencanaan dan Pembangunan Nasional/Bappenas RI, dilansir dari laman Unpad, Rabu, 30 Agustus 2023.

Menurut Asep, proses uji coba dan pengembangan alat ini membawa hasil yang baik. Alat detektor bakteri E. coli ini pun telah berjaya dalam sejumlah kompetisi tingkat internasional.

Prestasi itu antara lain ditorehkan di World Intellectual Property Association dan Taiwan Intellectual Property Association. Lalu, memperoleh apresiasi khusus dari Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, Thailand; Gold Medal ITEX Malaysia; dan Gold Medal Japan Design Invention Expo.

“Perjalanan alat ini belum berakhir. Pengembangan lebih lanjut diperlukan untuk memastikan tingkat sensitivitas yang optimal dan penggunaan yang semakin praktis,” ujar Asep.

Direktur Perumahan dan Kawasan Permukiman Bappenas, Tri Dewi Virgiyanti, ST, MEM., mengapresiasi penemuan ini. Menurutnya, alat ini berpotensi memberi manfaat bagi banyak pihak, seperti hotel, restoran, wisatawan, dan pedagang kaki lima.

“Alat ini akan menjadi solusi praktis untuk memastikan keamanan konsumsi makanan di berbagai lapisan masyarakat,” tuturnya.

Kepala Subdirektorat Penyehatan Pangan Kemenkes, Tutut Indra Wahyuni, SKM, M.Kes., mengatakan, alat pendeteksi ini jika diproduksi massal akan bermanfaat sebagai bagian dari pencegahan penyakit.

“Alat ini dapat dipasang setidaknya satu di setiap Puskesmas,” ucapnya.

Sementara tim Sekretariat WASH UNICEF di Bappenas Nadya Sitompul, menuturkan, “Jika jiwa kreatif para pemuda Indonesia semuanya seperti ini, maka tak diragukan lagi masa depan Indonesia akan bersinar terang.” (des)***
