ZONALITERASI.ID – Duta Baca Indonesia, Najwa Shihab, menyebutkan, masyarakat Indonesia yang suka ngobrol, lebih rentan terkena hoaks. Selain itu, mewabahnya hoaks disebabkan belum ajegnya budaya baca secara fisik dengan buku-buku.

“Masyarakat Indonesia dikenal sebagai masyarakat yang suka ngobrol. Lebih-lebih di media sosial, di mana pengguna Facebook dan Instagram di Indonesia menyentuh angka puluhan juta. Selain itu, belum ajegnya budaya baca secara fisik dengan buku-buku mengakibatkan masyarakat beralih ke budaya baca digital,” tutur Duta Baca Indonesia, Najwa Shihab, pada Webinar Perpustakaan Nasional (Perpusnas), “Mencegah Hoax Dengan Membaca”, dikutip dari Perpusnas.go.id, Jumat, 2 Juni 2023.

Najwa menuturkan, menyebarnya hoaks juga dipicu masyarakat Indonesia yang lebih percaya jika mendapatkan informasi dari orang-orang terdekat.

“Ini yang membuat hoaks tumbuh subur. Masyarakat masih sulit mencari referensi. Salah satunya terjadi saat Covid-19 yang terhitung baru. Masyarakat kerap mendapat informasi dari sumber-sumber yang tidak jelas,” ujarnya.

Najwa berpesan agar berhati-hati dengan judul berita yang provokatif.

“Pembaca terlebih dahulu harus mencermati alamat situs, abal-abal atau tidak. Lalu, cek keaslian foto. Saat ini sudah banyak aplikasi yang disediakan untuk mengecek keaslian sumber informasi, gambar, dan foto-foto,” cetusnya.

Ditambahkannya, budaya baca digital memerlukan kemampuan literasi yang kuat. Masyarakat Indonesia sendiri, kata Najwa, masih rentan karena belum mampu memilih serta memilah informasi yang tepat dan sesuai kebutuhan.

“Membaca buku secara fisik akan membawa karakter yang tidak mudah percaya dengan kiriman informasi. Punya rasa penasaran, berhati hati dalam mengambil keputusan, dan terbiasa mencari benang merah dari yang dibacanya. Tidak mudah dibohongi. Sedangkan membaca buku secara digital, biasanya yang dibaca hanya poin-poin atau sepotong-potong,” pungkas Najwa. (des)***
