Ciri bakat ini biasanya walaupun anak tidak mempelajari secara khusus tetapi dia tetap memiliki kemampuan lebih di bidang tersebut. Baik di bidang mata pelajaran, olah raga, maupun hobi.
Bakat bisa diartikan sebagai keahlian alami yang dimiliki setiap anak, bakat juga sering disebut sebagai talenta. Sedangkan minat sesuatu yang lebih disukai dari anak kita baik bidang pelajaran, olahraga, maupun hobi. Ini bisa kita amati dari kecil hal-hal apa saja yang anak kita sukai dari pada bidang yang lainnya.
Sedangkan minat berarti ketertarikan dan keinginan seseorang untuk memiliki atau mempelajari sesuatu yang disukai.
Setiap anak memiliki minat dan bakatnya masing-masing. Tugas orang tua adalah untuk menemukannya dan mengarahkan bakat dan minat tersebut menjadi sesuatu yang berguna.
Jika anak diberikan keleluasaan untuk menjalankan hal yang dia sukai, mereka tentu akan jauh bersemangat dan antusias terhadap bidang tersebut. Termasuk dalam hal menentukan bidang pelajaran atau jurusan sekolah yang mereka senangi. Dengan menyenangi sesuatu yang mereka pelajari, maka potensi untuk berprestasi akan jauh lebih terbuka lebar.
Cara yang lebih sederhana untuk mengetahui minat dan bakat anak yaitu dengan memperhatikan kebiasaannya. Sayang tak semua orang tua memiliki kesempatan untuk dapat memperhatikan setiap tumbuh kembang anak. Bagi yang memiliki banyak waktu bersama anak, sebaiknya memperhatikan setiap kebiasaan yang mereka lakukan sedari kecil.
Kebiasaannya juga termasuk hobi yang anak senangi. Dengan mengetahui hobi anak orang tua bisa mengambil langkah untuk menyalurkan hobi tersebut menjadi sesuatu yagn berguna. Misalnya, sang anak gemar musik, maka kita dapat mengarahkan anak,untuk mengambil jurusan seni musik. Karena tidak menutup kemungkinan di masa mendatang anak dapat menjadi musisi ternama.
Sebagai orang tua kita jangan membatasi anak untuk memilih bidang yang disukai. Dengan memberikan anak banyak pilihan sesuai bidang yang diminati anak akan menjadi lebih selektif dalam menentukan yang benar-benar dia butuhkan.
Termasuk dalam memilih jurusan selepas SMP apakah mau melanjutkan ke SMA atau sekolah kejuruan. Dengan memberikan anak banyak pilihan, anak akan terlatih untuk mengasah kemampuan menganalisa, riset, dan mengamati setiap pilihan yang diberikan. Hanya yang terbaik dan sesuai kebutuhannya yang akan pilih.
Bila kita sebagai orang tua masih ragu-ragu terhadap minat dan bakat anak ada baiknya kita berkonsultasi dengan seseorang yang ahli. Kita bisa berkonsultasi dengan tokoh pendidikan atau psikolog yang dapat memahami minat dan bakat anak. Karena ahli mempunyai metode ilmiah untuk mengetahui minat dan bakat anak yang dapat kita gunakan untuk pertimbangan dalam mengambil jurusan anak kita.
Pentingnya mengenali minat dan bakat anak agar kita sebagai orang tua dapat mendampingi dalam memilih jurusan sekolah yang akan berujung pada kariernya di masa depannya. Dengan pilihan jurusan yang tepat sesuai dengan minat dan bakat anak, harapan kita dia akan menjalani proses pendidikannya dengan senang dan nyaman dan akan menghantarkannya pada presentasi yang baik.
