Pergolakan menjelang kemerdekaan Timor Timur (Timor Leste) pada 1998, memunculkan perasaan tidak nyaman di kalangan umat Islam di Bumi Lorosae itu. Karena bentrok yang tidak bisa dihindarkan dengan sesama warga Timor Timur lainnya, akhirnya beberapa warga Timor Timur yang menganut agama Islam memilih untuk eksodus ke berbagai wilayah di Indonesia, termasuk Jawa Barat.
AWALNYA, tokoh-tokoh muslim asal Timor Timur di Jawa Barat memilih kawasan Kebonkopi, Cibeureum, Kota Cimahi sebagai lokasi untuk merapatkan barisan di antara warga asal Timor Timur. Untuk lebih mempererat jalinan silaturahmi antara muslim asal Timor Timur, pada 1998, lima tokoh muslim asal provinsi ke-27 di masa orde baru itu, sepakat untuk membuat Yayasan Lemorai Timor Indonesia.
“Kelima tokoh muslim itu yakni Hasan Basri RF, Arief Marzuki Varela, Muhammad Yasir, Salma Alfaris, dan Rahim. Pembentukan yayasan itu bertujuan untuk memberikan pembinaan dan memasiitasi pendidikan untuk anak-anak muslim asal Timor Timur,” kata Ketua Yayasan Lemorai Timor Indonesia, Al Siti Khodijah IDS, kepada Zonaliterasi.id, di Tanjungsari, Kabupaten Sumedang, baru-baru ini.
Menurut perempuan yang sebelum menjadi muslimah bernama Isabel Dasilbah itu, saat Yayasan Lemorai Timor Indonesia berdiri, pengurus yayasan berhasil membawa empat anak dari kawasan TimorTimur ke Kebonkopi, Cimahi.
Lalu pada 1994, sebanyak 60 anak muslim kembali didatangkan dari Timor ke Tatar Pasundan. Mereka kemudian dikirimkan oleh pengurus yayasan untuk mengggali ilmu-ilmu Islam ke berbagai pesantren, seperti pesantren di Cijerah, Cililin, dan Sumur Bandung.
“Hampir setiap tahun, yayasan mendatangkan 5 hingga 10 anak dari Timor Timur. Hingga saat ini ratusan anak telah difasilitasi untuk mengikuti pendidikan di berbagai pesantren, seperti di Bandung, Tasikmalaya, Bogor, Kalimantan, dan Sulawesi,” kata Siti.
Dikatakannya, seiring berjalannya waktu, pengurus yayasan menginginkan lokasi untuk menjalankan aktivitas yayasan yang lebih layak. Akhirnya, berdasarkan berbagai pertimbangan dari pengurus, dipilihlah Dusun Babakan Mulya RT 02/RW 04, Desa Gunungmanik, Kecamatan Tanjungsari, Kabupaten Sumedang sebagai lokasi untuk mengembangkan aktivitas yayasan.
“Saat pertama datang ke Desa Gunungmanik pada tahun 2001, sebanyak 20 warga asal Timor Timur membuka lahan untuk aktivitas yayasan. Di lokasi ini kemudian berlangsung aktivitas pendidikan non formal bagi anak-anak, seperti madrasah dan pelatihan komputer. Selain itu, kami pun memiliki panti asuhan,” katanya.
Seksi Departemen Sosial Yayasan Lemorai Timor Indonesia, Syamsudin Daud, menambahkan, dia termasuk salah satu yang pertama kali merintis membuka lahan untuk lokasi yayasan di Desa Gunungmanik.
Menurut Syamsudin, ketika pertama datang ke lokasi yang kini menjadi tempat untuk pendirian madrasah, asrama putra, asrama putri, lapang olahraga, dan lokasi untuk peternakan itik itu, hanya ditumbuhi rimbunan pohon bambu.
“Saya ikut menebang bambu bersama kawan-kawan lainnya. Lumayan capai juga membersihka lahan yang luasnya mencapai ratusan meter persegi ini,” katanya. (dede suherlan)***
