ZONALITERASI.ID – Fenomena kentut adalah suatu hal umum terjadi namun kerap terlewat bahkan enggan untuk dibicarakan. Seperti fakta unik frekuensi kentut antara pria dan wanita berbeda.

Ternyata, pria lebih sering mengeluarkan kentut hingga 25 kali dalam sehari.

Fakta unik lainnya adalah hanya 20 persen gas yang dikeluarkan via anus, sisanya melalui sendawa. Jumlah mikroba dalam tubuh manusia mencapai 14 miliar dan dapat menghasilkan 13 liter gas hidrogen dalam sehari. Namun gas tersebut sebagian diserap mikroba, tidak dikeluarkan seluruhnya lewat anus.

Gas hidrogen akan direaksikan dengan senyawa bersulfur sehingga menghasilkan gas hidrogen sulfida yang berbau khas telur busuk. Ada pula mikroba yang dapat menghasilkan gas metana yang berbau kurang sedap.

“Perubahan molekul hidrogen menjadi metana ataupun hidrogen sulfide berbau busuk itu sebenarnya adalah bentuk kasih sayang Allah kepada manusia. Kita tahu bahwa dua kilogram atau 14 milyar sel mikroba dalam tubuh bisa mengkonversi 40 gram karbohidrat menjadi 13 liter hidrogen. Bayangkan bila kita dipaksa untuk mengeluarkan gas sebanyak itu dalam satu waktu melalui lubang yang sama, pasti menderita, mengingat hidrogen sendiri bersifat flammable (mudah terbakar),” kata Dosen Departemen Biokimia, IPB University, Dr Syaefudin, dilansir dari laman IPB University.

Syaefudin menyebutkan, produktivitas gas kentut berkaitan erat dengan kesehatan manusia. Bau gas kentut dapat ditentukan berdasarkan jenis makanan, terutama yang mengandung banyak protein.

“Sumber gas kentut tersebut berasal dari eksogen yakni udara dan minuman atau endogen dari fermentasi makanan,” terangnya.

1. Mengurangi perut kembung

Untuk mengurangi ketidaknyamanan ini, tubuh Anda secara alami akan mengeluarkan gas dengan lebih sering kentut maupun sendawa.

2. Menandakan alergi dan intoleransi makanan

Munculnya gangguan pencernaan, termasuk perut kembung dan buang air berlebihan, dapat menjadi tanda bahwa Anda kemungkinan mengalami alergi dan intoleransi makanan.

Riset yang dilakukan peneliti dari University of Exeter dan University of Texas menemukan gas hidrogen sulfida dalam kentut bisa menjadi kunci pengobatan penyakit serius.

Pada tingkat seluler dan jumlah yang kecil, gas kentut mungkin bisa melindungi mitokondria. Mitokondria merupakan bagian dari sel tubuh yang berperan dalam menghasilkan energi.
