Perjuangan Panjang Karnah, Guru Asal Rancah Ciamis Peraih Medali Asian Games Tokyo

ZONALITERASI.ID – Ternyata, dari Dusun Cikuda, Desa Bojonggedang, Kecamatan Rancah, Kabupaten Ciamis pernah lahir atlet berprestasi internasional. Dia adalah Karnah Sukarta Wirasaputra, yang memboyong penghargaan dari cabang atletik nomor lempar lembing di berbagai event.

Atlet yang dilahirkan pada 1 Februari 1940 itu antara lain memboyong medali perunggu cabang atletik nomor lempar lembing putri Asian Games Tokyo 1958. Dia mengumpulkan total lemparan 45, 03. Nilai itu kalah 1,04 dari Elizabeth Davenport (India) dan 2,12 Yoriko Shida (Jepang).

Selepas Karnah menorehkan prestasi gemilang di Asian Games Tokyo, ia dan para atlet kontingen Indonesia pun mendapat sambutan meriah sepulang ke Tanah Air. Bak pahlawan, mereka langsung diundang berbagai pejabat, mulai Presiden Sukarno hingga pejabat-pejabat daerah.

Surat kabar Pikiran Rakyat, 5 Juli 1958, melaporkan, sekira 18 atlet kontingen Indonesia turut dielu-elukan di Bandung. Beragam kendaraan disiapkan untuk menjemput mereka, yang datang dengan kereta api dari Jakarta. Karnah pribadi diantar khusus oleh perwira Kodam III Siliwangi Letkol Rivai dengan mobil Cabriolet Deluxe, diantar dari Stasiun Bandung ke Balai Kota tempat upacara penyambutan.

Gempita penyambutan Karnah juga semarak di kampung halamannya di Ciamis. Iring-iringan kendaraan militer mengarak Karnah dari Tarogong, Ciamis sampai Pendopo Tasikmalaya.

Warga kampung halamannya bahkan sampai mengeluarkan gagasan agar Karnah dijadikan tokoh Ciamis yang diabadikan dengan tugu peringatan.

Perjuangan Panjang

Prestasi yang diraih Karnah di Asian Games Tokyo merupakan prestasi terbaik yang diraih Karnah. Perjuangan panjang dilalui Karnah untuk mencapai prestasi prestisius itu.

Dikutip dari Kompasiana.com, konon, meski keluarganya hanya petani kecil, Karnah sangat aktif.

Karnah menempuh pendidikan formal pada usia 9 tahun di Sekolah Rakyat Pangambiran, Cisaga. Lalu, ia melanjutkan pendidikan ke Sekolah Guru B (SGB) di Ciamis.

Sejak kecil, Karnah menunjukkan bakat olahraganya, mulai bola keranjang, kasti, hingga panca lomba (atletik).

Karnah mendapatkan prestasi pada 1956 dalam kejuaraan di Garut, Jawa Barat dan PON IV di Makassar, Sulawesi Selatan. Di event tertinggi nasional itu Karnah menyumbangkan medali emas untuk Jabar setelah memborong gelar di nomor panca lomba yang mencakup lari 100 meter, lompat jauh, lompat tinggi, lempar lembing, dan lempar cakram.

Selepas PON IV, Karnah kemudian mendapatkan kesempatan mengikuti seleksi Asian Games Tokyo 1958.

Anak Asuh

Prestasi yang diraih Karnah menarik perhatian seorang pengusaha batik asal Bandung bernama Sukarna Saputra. Karnah pun diangkat sebagai anak asuh.

Ia kemudian diboyong ke Bandung untuk melanjutkan sekolah di SGPD (Sekolah Guru Pendidikan jasmani). Nama Karnah pun diganti mirip dengan bapak asuhnya menjadi Sukarnah.

Sebetulnya, biaya pendidikannnya di SGPD ditanggung oleh PPK Jawa Barat. Namun, saat Karnah terlanjur menjalani pendidikan, janji itu tidak terlaksana, hingga akhirnya bapak asuh Karnah, Sukarna, yang membiayai pendidikannya.

Uang pertama diterima dari Sukarna sebesar Rp 1.650 digunakan oleh Karnah untuk biaya sekolah dan pemondokan. Karnah juga pernah dibantu salah satu warga Kota Bandung, Ibu Djuanda sebesar Rp 1000 untuk membeli bajunya yang sudah layu dan tak layak dipakai pelajar.

Pihak lain yang membantunya yaitu Nangkah Hadinoto, seorang pegawai Kedutaan Jerman sebesar Rp 500. Semua bantuan itu diterima pada 1959.

Namun bantuan keuangan ini menimbulkan permasalahan, Karnah mendapatkan hukuman skorsing dari perkumpulan atletiknya GABA Bandung, karena statusnya sebagai atlet amatir.

Setelah menyelesaikan pendidikan di SGPD, Karnah melanjutkan kuliah di Fakultas Sosial IKIP Bandung pada 1962.

Di IKIP Bandung, dia terpilih sebagai ketua bidang Hubungan Masyarakat (Humas) Dewan Mahasiswa (Dema). Sikapnya yang mengidolakan Soekarno mendorongnya menjadi orator yang cukup ulung. Karena itu, dia diposisikan sebagai Humas.

Sayang ketika Bung Karno jatuh, ia terkena getah dituduh antek PKI. Rumahnya di Bandung dibakar massa. Karnah pun bercerai dengan suaminya. Dia sempat ditahan dan kemudian bebas pada 1966.

Karnah kemudian sempat mengajar di SMA Negeri 3 Bandung. Peristiwa Malari 1974 membuatnya kembali meringkuk di jeruji besi.

Pada 1978 dia sempat menikah lagi tetapi bercerai dua tahun kemudian.

Cerita Unik

Karnah memiliki cerita unik. Lolos tes kelamin untuk Asian Games III sebagai perempuan, namun Karnah tak menyadari bahwa ia sebetulnya berkelamin ganda. Mungkin, pada 1950-an fasilitas kesehatan masih sulit dan identifikasi jenis kelamin bisa keliru.

Saat berusia 40 tahun hal itu terungkap. Karnah kemudian berganti kelamin menjadi laki-laki dan namanya pun berganti menjadi Iwan Setiawan Setiadihardja Wirasaputra. Ia kemudian menikah dengan seorang perempuan bernama Pudjiastuti pada 1981. Pasangan ini dikaruniai seorang anak.

Perjalanan panjang Karnah yang berganti nama menjadi Iwan itu, tersimpan sebagai memori indah. Selanjutnya, ia hidup bersahaja di Noong, Kecamatan Cisaga, Kabupaten Ciamis.

Perhatian pemerintah atas capaian prestasi Karnah, baru terlihat pada 2007 ketika Kementerian Pemuda dan Olahraga memberikannya uang dan rumah. (dede suherlan)***
