ZONALITERASI.ID – Sejarah panjang menyertai perjalanan SMAN 3 Bandung yang berlokasi di Jalan Belitung, Kecamatan Sumur Bandung.

Konon, sekolah yang dikenal sebagai salah satu sekolah unggulan ini dibangun pada zaman pemerintahan Hindia Belanda, pada tahun 1916.

Dengan arsitek C.P Wolff Schoemaker, yang banyak mendesain gedung-gedung bersejarah di wilayah Bandung, gedung SMAN 3 (dan SMAN 5 Bandung/berdampingan dengan SMAN 3), dibangun di lahan seluas 14.240 meter persegi.

Gedungnya berfungsi sebagai gedung Hoogere Burgerschool te Bandoeng (HBS) dengan masa studi 5 tahun. Dan, yang menempuh pendidikan di HBS hanya kalangan ningrat.

Setelah dijadikan gedung HBS pada 1916-1942, bangunan ini digunakan oleh sekolah Voortgezer Hoger Onderwys (VHO) yang dipimpin oleh Buchresen pada 1947-1952. Pada pagi hari, gedung digunakan oleh siswa Belanda dan pada siang harinya gedung digunakan oleh siswa Indonesia.

Namun, pada masa penjajahan Jepang (1942-1945), gedung ini sempat digunakan sebagai Markas Tentara Jepang (Kompetai). Saat itu Jepang hendak berperang melawan tentara sekutu.

Setelah Jepang angkat kaki dari Bumi Pertiwi, dari tahun 1947 hingga 1950 saat masa peralihan, gedung ini difungsikan sebagai Sekolah VHO (Voortgezet Hoger Onderwijs), sekolah setaraf SMA berbahasa Belanda saat pagi dan sore hari dipakai siswa pribumi.

Lama kelamaan siswa Belanda surut sehingga gedung itu murni dihuni siswa pribumi.

Awalnya di gedung itu sempat bergabung SMAN 1, SMAN 2, SMAN 4, dan SMAN 6. Namun 1966, akhirnya empat sekolah itu memiliki gedung sendiri-sendiri di beberapa lokasi di Kota Bandung. Tersisa SMAN 3 dan 5 hingga saat ini.

Menilik sejarahnya, wajar saja SMAN 3 dan 5 Bandung selalu menjadi idaman siswa. Apalagi lulusannya banyak yang berhasil melanjutkan ke perguruan tinggi terkemuka di Tanah Air dan menjadi tokoh penting.

Banyak pesohor Tanah Air jebolan SMAN 3 Bandung. Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono IX tercatat pernah menuntut ilmu di sekolah ini (saat masih dipakai untuk gedung HBS).

Selain itu, Wakil Wali Kota Bandung Yana Mulyana, mantan Wali Kota Bandung Dada Rosada, Didi Petet, M. Farhan, mantan Rektor Unpad Tri Hanggono Achmad, Purwacaraka, Dwiki Dharmawan, mantan Wakapolri Adang Daradjatun, dan Gubernur Jabar Ridwan Kamil, juga melewati pendidikan menengah di SMAN 3 Bandung.
