DALAM buku Good to Great karya Jim Collins, dituliskan: “Baik (good) adalah musuhnya hebat (great)”. Ujaran Jim Collins tersebut mengandung arti, apabila kita ingin hebat, maka kita tidak boleh merasa sudah cukup baik (Ippho Santosa, hal.7).

Apa yang dikemukakan Collins ada benarnya dan bermakna. Begitu merasa diri kita sudah baik, tentu enggan memperbaiki diri. Menganggap diri tanpa kekurangan lagi tentu sangat tidak bijak. Manusia yang hebat tentu akan merasa dirinya perlu perbaikan terus menerus. Merasa diri baik akan melenakan kita, sehingga enggan selalu belajar memperbaiki diri untuk menjadi hebat.

Kita perlu belajar dari atlit bulu tangkis dunia. Meski sudah meraih berbagai gelar juara di turnamen dunia, mereka tetap berlatih hampir setiap hari di pelatnas Cipayung. Ada atau tidak ada pertandingan, mereka berlatih rutin hampir setiap hari.

Almarhum Michael Jackson yang berjuluk King of Pop terus menerus berlatih menyanyi setiap waktunya meskipun popularitasnya sudah selangit.

Ahmad Dhani, musisi legend Indonesia, tetap meluangkan waktunya berlatih mengasah kemampuannya di studionya.

Banyak contoh lain tentang orang-orang terus-menerus mengasah kemampuannya untuk menjadi lebih baik. Inilah orang hebat. Bagi mereka, tampil biasa-biasa saja sama sekali tidaklah cukup.

Baginda Nabi mengingatkan: “Barang siapa yang hari ini lebih baik dari kemarin, maka ia merupakan orang yang beruntung. Kalau sama dengan kemarin, ia termasuk orang merugi. Bagaimana kalau ia lebih buruk dari kemarin? Dia termasuk orang yang celaka”.

Jadi jika Anda sudah bisa menulis serta karyanya sudah dimuat di berbagai media lalu merasa sudah baik, maka Anda gagal menjadi orang hebat.

Dalam falsafah Jepang yang bernama Kaizen yang artinya penyempurnaan terus-menerus. Semangat Kaizen mengantarkan Jepang menjadi negara ekonominya maju pesat, meskipun pernah menderita kehancuran karena bom atom yang dijatuhi sekutu tahun 1945.

Jadi jika ingin menjadi hebat, maka berhentilah merasa sudah cukup baik. Merasa dirinya sudah cukup baik dan pintar, membuat tidak ada keinginan belajar, mengasah diri terus menerus. Padahal, dengan berlatih terus menerus, berusaha mempersembahkan yang terbaik, akan menjadikan Anda jauh lebih hebat dari yang sekarang.

Tidak usah kuatir akan adanya hambatan atau rintangan. Dengan usaha keras terus menerus, tentu akan mampu menyingkirkan segala rintangan. Bukankah tetesan air secara terus-menerus, mampu melubangi dan mengikis sebuah batu?

Penyempurnaan yang tiada henti melalui proses berlatih dan belajar merupakan syarat mutlak untuk menjadi orang yang hebat. Merasa dirinya baik adalah musuh bagi orang hebat. ***
