Belajar Kebijakan dan Cinta dari Pengajaran Membaca dan Menulis Sastra

Pengantar

BUAT apa sebenarnya kita belajar sastra dari bangku sekolah pendidikan dasar hingga perguruan tinggi? Pertanyaan itu wajar ditanyakan masyarakat dan peserta didik yang kadang bingung, mengapa harus susah-susah belajar sastra yang penuh metafor dan simbol dalam pemaparannya di setiap jenis karya sastra. Mengapa harus susah-susah memakai bahasa konotatif yang penuh kiasan dibandingkan memakai bahasa denotatif yang terbuka? Itulah keunikan dunia sastra, dari keunikan itulah sebenarnya manusia akan belajar berbagai cara bijak dan cinta menjalani kehidupannya.

Maka, setiaporang berhak untuk menjadi sastrawan. Namun, tidak setiap orang pula bisa menjadi sastrawan. Karena itu, alangkah menarik dunia pengajaran sastra kita untuk terus-menerus dibicarakan. Tentu saja karena terjadi berbagai dimensi keinginan orang dengan dunia sastra

Makanya, ketetapan seseorang dalam menangkap berbagai dimensi dunia sastra adalah perjuangan yang tidak ringan karena sastra pada kenyataannya lebih tinggi dari status seorang pejabat. Betapa tidak! Di dalam sastra memang terkandung berbagai nilai-nilai moral dan spiritual yang sulit digambarkan dalam peran seorang pejabat yang hanya terlibat dalam spesialisasi masalah. Sastra penting diajarkan sejak kecil supaya anak belajar kebijakan dan cinta kasih. Sastra juga penting untuk membentuk pribadi remaja yang sehat, cerdas, kreatif, dan visioner.

Tidak salah kalau kita menyebutkan bahwa titik akhir dari suatu proses belajar mengajar adalah mutu yang dihasilkan. Mutu pengajaran sastra pada kenyataannya sudah bukan rahasia lagi kalau sering jadi bahan perbincangan murid, masyarakat, seniman, sastrawan, bahkan menteri. Hal itu terjadi karena adanya ketidakpuasan terhadap mutu yang dicapai oleh pengajaran sastra yang tidak memenuhi harapan berbagai pihak sebagai sesuatu yang agung dan penuh dengan berbagai nilai kehidupan dan didaktiknya.

Faktor-faktor seperti kurikulum, fasilitas, metodologi, evaluasi, siswa dan prestasinya, serta guru sastra itu sendiri pada akhirnya tumbuh sebagai lingkaran setan kalau kita mencari asal mula kesalahannya. Selain itu dipengaruhi pula oleh berbagai kendala hidup yang hadir seperti kualifikasi, minat, sikap, jenis kelamin, ekonomi, dan sejenisnya menjadikan pengajaran sastra timbul sebagai sebuah rantai permasalahan saling menyalahkan satu sama lainnya. Mungkin, ironinya adalah peribahasa ”maksud hati memeluk gunung apa daya tangan tak sampai”.

Landasan Esensial Sastra

Esensi pengajaran sastra sebenarnya tidak baik mengajari orang tentang sesuatu yang sudah menjadi rahasia umum. Namun, peringatan adalah jalan terbaik agar tak terperosok pada lubang yang sama di kemudian hari. Peringatan untuk masalah ini adalah kita sebaiknya mengembalikan permasalahan pengajaran sastra, yang pada awalnya adalah memberi pengetahuan dan pengalaman sastra kepada para siswa. Jadi, dalam pengalaman sastra ada kegiatan mengapresiasi dan berespresi sastra yang menimbulkan siswa mendapat “kenikmatan’ akan sastra.

Hal itu sebenarnya yang sering luput dari perhatian siswa dan guru itu sendiri. Siswa tidak tahu dengan rambu-rambu faktor yang berpengaruh dalam pengajaran sastra karena hanya tahu bahwa dirinya akan bersikap sebagai manusia yang akan dididik menjadi seorang sastrawan.

Akibat hal itu, Asrul Sani, pernah berujar, menjadikan sastra sekarang lebih banyak dipelajari secara sastra. Jadi murid lebih tahu “Pantun” daripada terlibat dalam proses menikmatinya pula. Sebab, menurutnya pula para pengarang atau penyair itu tidak dilahirkan di perguruan tinggi, tetapi oleh SMP dan SMA. Di sanalah siswa memperoleh pengetahuan dan pengalaman sastra sebagai dasar kreativitas yang terpicu di bangku perguruan tinggi yang telah dipenuhi berbagai kontemplasi masa lalu, masa kini, dan masa mendatang. Pemahaman terhadap esensi sastra dalam dunia pengajaran adalah bagian penting yang terus menerus harus selalu diingatkan.

Beberapa alternatif pemecahan barangkali karena subjek dan objek utama pengajaran sastra adalah guru dan siswa, keduanya memang harus punya dasar yang sama dalam menciptakan iklim pengajaran sastra yang sesuai dengan esensinya.

Satu kunci untuk menciptakan iklim kerja sama dalam pencapaian ke arah itu adalah kata “Cinta”. Guru dan siswa pada awalnya harus memperoleh kecintaan yang sama terhadap esensi pengajaran sastra di sekolah. Untuk memperoleh cinta itu sendiri, tentu saja banyak hal yang mesti dilakukan. Dari siswa; misalnya mencoba bersikap serius untuk memperoleh pengetahuan dan pengalaman sastra, dalam usaha menyentuh unsur penikmatan sastra. Pengalaman mengapresiasi dan berekspresi sastra saja sebenarnya sudah cukup sebagai dasar utama pencapaian kunci permasalahan yang jadi bekal masa depannya. Dari guru; tentu saja ada imbangnya karena guru sekarang masih tetap sebagai ujung tombak pengajaran. Dasar utama untuk memperoleh kunci permasalahannya, para guru mesti mencoba menjadikan kerjanya sebagai sebuah kebutuhan yang akhirnya akan melahirkan cinta. Setelah rasa cinta dalam mengajarkan sastra itu tumbuh, rasa cinta itu akan beranak-pinak menjadi kreativitas perwujudan cinta dengan bentuk meningkatkan potensi dirinya sebagai guru, seperti meningkatkan penguasaan materi, memperluas wawasan tentang berbagai model mengajar dan pengajaran (alat, sastrawan, buku, dsb), meningkatkan penguasaan teknik evaluasi, meningkatkan intensitas latihan, memperbaiki persepsi terhadap karya sastra dan karya siswa secara positif, mencoba mengembangkan dan membangun kondisi sastra pada para siswa secara bertahap.

Alternatif-alternatif itu tentu saja disesuaikan dengan tingkat pengalaman batin guru dan siswa karena pada dasarnya di dunia ini tidak ada manusia yang memiliki pengalaman persis sama. Seperti kata Prof. Dr. Yus Rusyana, para guru dalam mengajar sebaiknya memiliki tiga landasan penting, yakni landasan empirik, landasan teori, landasan pendidikan pengajaran.

Sebaiknya pula guru mengajarkan sastra sesuai esensinya dengan bertolak dari sesuatu yang empirik. Dengan alasan seperti itu, maka untuk mengajarkan sastra dalam proses belajar mengajarnya memang unsur rasa cinta mesti ditanamkan lebih dahulu. Sebab, cinta bisa menyatukan dunia seperti halnya sastra yang mampu meluluhkan gunung, laut, tanah, dan langit untuk bersatu dalam satu tempat, yakni bahasa sastra!***
