ZONALITERASI.ID – Lembaga Pemasyarakatan (Lapas) Kelas IIB Purwakarta memiliki perhatian khusus dalam mewadahi minat baca warga binaan. Itu dibuktikan dengan tersedianya Taman Baca di Lapas yang dibangun pada tahun 1972 dan beralamat di Jalan Mr. Dr. Kusuma Atmaja Purwakarta itu.

Menempati bangunan berbentuk saung dengan luas 5 X 3 meter, Taman Baca menjadi fasilitas favorit yang banyak dikunjungi warga binaan. Sebanyak 60 persen dari 566 warga binaan Lapas, kerap menyambangi Taman Baca yang berdiri sejak September 2018 ini.

“Taman Baca di dalam Lapas menjadi salah satu tempat mengisi waktu luang sebagian banyak warga binaan. Sejengkal juga lebih berarti daripada cuma sebatas nongkrong. Dan, siapa tahu setelah keluar nanti bisa menerapkan apa yang didapat dari hasil membaca di dalam Lapas,” kata Kasi Pembinaan dan Kegiatan Kerja Narapidana Lapas Klas IIB Purwakarta, Asep Saripudin, dikutip dari Jabarnews.com, Kamis, 9 November 2023.

Menurut Asep, keberadaan Taman Baca ini sebetulnya sudah ada sejak dulu. Namun, lokasi Taman Baca yang terletak di dalam ruangan membuat kurang begitu menarik perhatian para warga binaan.

“Setelah dipindahkan ke lokasi yang dianggap strategis, warga binaan yang datang ke Taman Baca meningkat,” kata Asep.

Ditambahkannya, Taman Baca Lapas Kelas IIB Purwakarta memiliki 500 koleksi buku. Sebanyak 300 buku merupakan bantuan dari Dinas Perpustakaan dan Kearsipan Kabupaten Purwakarta.

“Jenis atau tema buku yang disediakan di Taman Baca beragam, mulai buku tentang pelatihan, ilmu pengetahuan, peternakan, pertanian, hingga motivasi. Diharapkan warga binaan mampu mengimplementasikan apa yang diperoleh dari hasil membaca di saat mereka kembali ke tengah-tengah masyarakat,” pungkas Asep. (des)***
