INI bukan kisah tentang karuhun urang, tapi karuhun batur, namun pernah berhubungan dengan karuhun urang. Ini mah hanya kisah iseng seorang Belanda juragan entéh terbesar di Tatar Priangan, dulu, di zaman kolonial. Kisahnya si Tuan Hola yang dikenal bageur dan béréhan, juga punya andil positif pada perkembangan budaya karuhun urang.
Awalnya mah kisah ini mencuat tahun 1960. Saat itu téh pegunungan di Tatar Priangan masih mencekam, karena baru terbebas dari operasi penumpasan pemberontakan DI/TII pimpinan Kartosuwiryo.
Tiba-tiba masyarakat Garut geger oleh kabar dari Gunung Cikuray. Telah ditemukan sebuah batu démprak berukuran satu setengah meter persegi. Batu yang ada tulisannya. Ya … Batu bertulis, atau prasasti téa namanya. Tulisannya hanya beberapa aksara Sunda kuno yang susah dimengerti. Juga beberapa garis lengkung mirip pola garis batok kuya. Batu bertulis itu terkubur di sekitar reruntuhan pabrik entéh bekas perkebunan milik Tuan Hola.
Empat tahun kemudian, di Jakarta ada seorang filolog Belanda bernama J. Noorduyn. Dia sedang meneliti manuskrip lontar Sunda kuno koleksi Museum Jakarta. Lontar Bujangga Manik téa geuning, naskah Sunda kuno yang terkenal itu.
Mendengar kabar ada batu bertulis yang belum tercatat, Tuan Noorduyn jadi ingin ke Garut. Tentu saja kitu, dia mah bukan sekadar filolog yang menguasai epigrafi. Tapi juga sangat menyukai naskah-naskah dan sejarah Sunda kuno. Dia tidak ingin melewatkan kesempatan membaca dan menuliskan prasasti yang baru ditemukan di Cikajang itu.
Noorduyn menghubungi rekan-rekannya, para arkeolog dari Bandung. Setelah segala logistik disiapkan, surat jalan sudah tersedia, maka, Noorduyn pun meluncur ke Bandung naik kereta api. Katanya, sepanjang perjalanan kereta itu dikawal tentara, sebab sisa-sisa DI/TII masih suka mengganggu perjalanan kereta.
Di Bandung, rekan-rekan Noorduyn sudah menunggu. Mereka adalah Suhamir (arkeolog), Machdar (pakar budaya Sunda), dan Titus (penerjemah). Dari Bandung mereka berombongan, ngadius tumpak Land-Rover menuju Garut. Lalu bersusah-payah offroad di kaki gunung Cikurai di Cikajang Garut.
Rombongan Noorduyn sampai di depan batu bertulis itu. Mereka diantar warga urang Cikajang yang hafal seluk-beluk reruntuhan pabrik dan perkebunan entéh Cikajang. Tanpa buang waktu, mereka langsung sibuk. Foto sana foto sini, baca itu baca ini, juga mencatat segala yang ada. Mereka memperhatikan goresan pada batu dengan saksama, lalu termenung, berdecak, dan geleng-geleng kepala.
Mereka yakin, aksara pada Prasasti Cikajang ini mirip aksara pada Prasasti Kawali, yang dipublish Raffles tahun 1817. Hanya beda pola garisnya saja, yang di Kawali lurus, yang ini mah lengkung.
Singkat cerita, rombongan berhasil membaca tulisannya. Bhagi bhagya // ka // nu ngaliwat //. Eta hungkul, hanya tiga baris. Lalu mereka pulang.
Ketika Noorduyn memikirkan makna tulisan prasasti Cikajang, dia mulai mencium ketidakberesan. “Janggal ini mah … Janggal. Pasti ada yang salah.” Kira-kira kitu gerutu Noorduyn.
Batu bertulis itu ada di sekitar bekas pabrik entéh Tuan Hola. Kondisinya hanya tertimbun sedikit tanah dan serasah, tertutup semak. Bukan terkubur dalam tanah. Jadi, ketika Tuan Hola masih jadi juragan perkebunan, batu itu tentu sudah ada di permukaan. Harusnya sudah terlihat dari dulu.
Noorduyn tahu, Tuan Hola, atau Karel Frederik Holle itu bukan sekadar juragan entéh terkaya, tapi juga seorang peminat sejarah. Seorang filolog dan mengerti epigrafi. Prasasti Kawali saja dia baca. Prasasti Geger Hanjuang dia yang temukan. Bahkan dia itu yang membuat daftar abjad huruf-huruf prasasti di Nusantara yang sangat berguna bagi perkembangan palaeografi. Masa, prasasti di belakang pabriknya dia biarkan begitu saja tanpa catatan. Kan aneh. Euh, verdomme … Ik was bedrogen ini mah.
Noorduyn menduga prasasti itu hoaks. Tapi dia tetap penasaran. Dia upayakan kembali ke Cikajang untuk melanjutkan penelitian. Kali ini objeknya berganti pada pemilik perkebunan entéh tempat batu bertulis itu ditemukan. Iya, pada riwayat si Tuan Hole.
Soal sepak terjang Tuan Hola di luaran, semua sudah pada tahu, banyak catatan dan kisah tentangnya. Tapi kisah keseharian di tempat tinggalnya masih sangat sedikit. Itulah yang dicari Noorduyn. Bahkan sampai diteliti pada dokumen surat-surat pribadi si Tuan Hola.
Oh iya. Pada zamannya, Si Tuan Hola itu téh dikenal baik oleh masyarakat Garut dan sekitarnya. Sebagai Belanda dia terlalu Nyunda, disebut Sunda da terlalu jangkung dan mancung. Dia bukan hanya suka ilmu pengetahuan dan budaya Sunda. Dia fasih bahasa Sunda, banyak menulis buku cerita Sunda dengan tata bahasa Sunda yang baik. Bahkan mendorong berkembangnya kesustraan Sunda cetak. Sesekali suka terlihat andekak sila bari ngését rebab. Disukai masyarakat dan para pegawai di perkebunannya …. Ah, sudahlah. Nanti malah dituduh pro kolonialis.
Mengenai Batu bertulis itu akhirnya ditemukan jawabannya. Kisahnya téh kieu. Dulu, Tuan Hola punya sahabat di Buleleng Bali, namanya Tuan Dertik. Satu-satunya orang Belanda di Bali yang menguasai bahasa Bali. Disukai orang Bali saat itu, bahkan pernah mengompori orang Bali agar menentang penjajahan Gupermen Hindia Belanda. Dia itu peletak dasar linguistika modern untuk beberapa bahasa tutur di Nusantara.
Suatu ketika di tahun 1870, Tuan Dertik atau lengkapnya, Herman van Der Tuuk itu menyurati Tuan Hola dan mengatakan akan berkunjung ke Cikajang. Terpikir oleh Hola untuk nge-prank temanya itu. Mereka berdua sama-sama filolog yang faham epigrafi. Hola membalas surat Dertik, mengabarkan sangat menunggu kedatangannya, dia mengatakan ingin memperlihatkan sebuah prasasti yang baru saja dia temukan. Tentu saja, prasasti yang dimaksud adalah prasasti bohongan hasil rekayasanya sendiri.
Selanjutnya, entah bagaimana saat Tuan Dertik datang dan kena prank si Tuan Hola. Yang jelas, setalah kunjungan itu, Tuan Hola menempatkan batu bertulis karyanya itu sebagai patok kadaster (batas tanah) di perkebunan miliknya.***
